A great walkway draws visitors to your door, connects your outdoor spaces, and meaningfully improves curb appeal. A bad walkway is what people notice when they trip on a heaving slab or sink into mud crossing your yard.
We design and install walkways throughout Charles County in materials ranging from simple stamped concrete to elaborate flagstone paths with planted borders.
Walkway Material Options
Concrete Walkways — Most affordable, clean appearance. $8-$15 per sq ft. Best for: front walks, side yard access, utility paths.
Stamped Concrete Walkways — Decorative concrete with patterns. $12-$20 per sq ft. Best for: front walks where curb appeal matters.
Paver Walkways — Premium look, lifetime durability. $20-$35 per sq ft. Best for: front walks, garden paths, pool access.
Natural Flagstone — Classic stone walkway. $25-$45 per sq ft. Best for: garden paths, formal entrances.
Stepping Stones — Individual stones in turf or gravel. $5-$15 per stone installed. Best for: informal garden paths, secondary access.
Design Considerations
Width. Primary walkways should be 4-5 feet wide (two people can walk side-by-side). Garden paths can be 2-3 feet. Service paths can be 18-24 inches.
Curves. Curving paths feel more natural and inviting than straight runs. Subtle curves over 20+ feet length work better than tight curves.
Edging. Paver walkways benefit from edge restraint. Concrete walkways can have decorative borders. Natural stone walks often blend with plantings.
Lighting. Path lighting transforms walkways at night. We coordinate with low-voltage lighting installers for integrated systems.
Slope. Walkways need 1-2% cross-slope for drainage. ADA-compliant approaches require maximum 5% running slope.
